To Teach is To Do - a Poetry Workshop for Teachers

THE POETRY SCHOOL

10.30am - 4.30pm

As teachers, how do we enable others to do something we are unsure of ourselves? Writing a poem for instance. Whether you teach secondary level English or children at primary school just beginning to learn to read and write, this is a day for you. We will explore ways in to writing and sharing poetry together and discuss how these might be adapted for use in different classroom settings. During the course of the day we will connect to some of poetry’s most basic and essential elements; love of language, use of sound and rhythm, form as a container. With National Poetry Day just around the corner, bring fresh enthusiasm to your class – write your own poems to celebrate!

SPLASH 14: THE BLOODLESS GIANT Royal Festival Hall. Over 500 Southwark children told a story about the seven ancient Greek definitions of love.Bloodless is a sad and lonely giant who is given new life through gifts of love. The children presented his story, led by a creative team including composers Ross Power and Laura Howe, choreographer Natasha Khamjani, poet and writer Cheryl Moskowitz, animator James Sandifer and percussionist James Larter. The performance is the result of intensive creative work in schools including writing poetry, singing, dancing and playing. These art forms intertwine around the dynamic rhythms of the percussion groups that represent the ever-warming 'heart' of Bloodless the giant.
